#HomegrownByShoprite Project Wrap Up
You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy local and that’s kind of the same thing – especially when you know you’re getting high-quality products crafted by South Africans, like the new Shoprite Homegrown range. #HomegrownByShoprite – Proudly local, serving you and our community. This 100% local range, exclusive to Shoprite nationwide, consists of South Africa’s everyday favourites – providing an opportunity for everyone to buy a premium, yet still affordable, range at Shoprite that easily elevates every kitchen in every household.
Sounds great, doesn’t it? But we wanted to know what true South Africans actually think of these local products, so they put them to the test!

We recruited a team of local lovers who are super passionate about shopping local and supporting South African entrepreneurs and small businesses, AND they wanted to shop high-quality products that are still affordable! They truly care about where their food comes from and they’re committed to supporting products that uplift South Africans. That’s why they were the perfect bunch to try the #HomegrownByShoprite Range and to let us know what they think.

POST 1:
In their first post, the Local Lovers shared a heartfelt review of their favourite product from the #HomegrownByShoprite range. They not only delved into the product itself, but also highlighted the inspiring story behind the South African entrepreneur who created it. Their captions were filled with meaningful stories as to why supporting local entrepreneurs is so important.
Meanwhile, the Influentials were given creative freedom to showcase the #HomegrownByShoprite range in their most authentic way. They invited their audience to stick around for the next post and to head to their nearest Shoprite store to get their hands on this delicious range and to support local entrepreneurs while doing so!
POST 2:
In their second post, the Influentials got to choose their own experience with the Homegrown range. They had the option to create reels of their shopping experience, giving their audience an inside look at the wide range of products available. Alternatively, they could film a haul of their favourite Homegrown items and show them off to their followers!
Another option was to take their audience on a culinary journey by demonstrating the versatility of the range’s atchar, hot sauce, cook-in sauce, or chutney. Their amazing recipes really showcased some great ideas for the kitchen.
To top it all off, the Influentials could even throw their own “Come Dine With Me” experience, highlighting the range’s delicious products such as cookies, gourmet popcorn, and more, all enjoyed with a warm cup of tea or a great movie.

Khayelitsha Cookies is devoted to employing, training, and empowering women in poverty-stricken areas. Today more than 90 women are employed and bake over 70,000 cookies per day. These locally crafted, hand-baked, original cookies are the perfect tea-time treat for any time of day.
- Atchar in Partnership with Exotic Spice: Exotic Taste is a family owned business by female entrepreneurs, Amina and daughter, Faatimah. It all began with their traditional lemon atchar. Each recipe is a unique fusion of aromatic spices, herbs, and oils and hand-cooked following the same delicious 100 year old family recipe.
- Sweet Popcorn in Partnership with LBB Innovative Foods: Sweet Popcorn, made in partnership with LBB Innovative Foods, is indulgently sweet with a classic creamy flavour and traditionally kettle popped to perfection. LLB innovative foods, is a small Cape confectioner, making handcrafted candies and sweet treats. This locally crafted, original gourmet popcorn is the ultimate treat-time indulgence.
